Emergency Financial Assistance for Red Raiders

When life takes an unexpected turn, we're here to help. The Raider Relief Fund provides short-term, one-time emergency assistance to currently enrolled Texas Tech students facing serious financial hardship that threatens their ability to continue their education.

 

Whether it’s a lost job, sudden illness, or other urgent situation, we’re committed to helping Red Raiders!

What is the Raider Relief Fund?

  • Sources: Funds are made possible through generous donations.
  • Distribution: Funds are not automatically distributed and are subject to availability.
  • Nature of Funds: Funds do not go directly to students and are not classified as scholarships.

Eligibility and Requirements

  • Exhaust All Options:
    • Prior to award approval, the student must have exhausted all other options, including additional financial aid, loans, and support from family or friends.
  • Enrollment Status:
    • Students must be currently enrolled and have completed coursework with a Texas Tech institutional GPA:
      • Above 2.0 for undergraduate students
      • Above 3.0 for graduate students
  • Good Standing:
    • A student must be in good standing – financially, academically, and disciplinary, as defined by university policies.
  • Documentation:
    • Before accepting awards, students must provide financial records and statements. Failure to comply will result in denial of the award.
  • Integrity:
    • Any student found to falsify information or misuse funds will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct

Covered Funding:

Awards are available for students in financial crisis who are currently enrolled for the semester in which they apply. A financial crisis is defined as a situation where a student cannot continue their education unless the expense is paid, and they have no other means to cover them.

  • Eligible expenses may include:
    • Rent
    • Utilities
    • Textbooks
    • Food Assistance
    • Hygiene
    • Childcare
  • Causes of Financial Crisis:
    • Unexpected loss of employment
    • Long-term illness or hospitalization
    • Natural or man-made disasters
    • Death of the student’s financial support
    • Unrest in the student’s home country
  • Funds may not be used for:
    • Texas Tech University tuition and fees
    • Residential and housing fees
    • Non-TTU affiliated medical expenses
    • Study abroad costs
    • Entertainment or recreation costs
    • Credit card debt
    • Misuse of financial aid funding
    • Non-emergency travel or other non-essential expenses
    • Parking fees, citations, or library fines
    • Transportation costs (vehicle repairs/ car payments)

Application Process and Guidelines

To get started, fill out a Raider Relief Fund application.

After your application is submitted, you will be contacted by a staff member in Raider Relief - Advocacy and Resource Center (RR-ARC) to schedule a meeting to assist you. Feel free to attach any supporting documentation you may have.

Please allow up to 2 weeks to receive follow-up communication. After your consultation, you’ll be informed of your eligibility for one-time emergency relief assistance.

  • Committee Review: All applications are reviewed by a campus-developed committee.
  • No Guarantee: A submitted application does not guarantee an award.
  • Decision Authority: The Raider Relief Fund Committee values all applicants and has the ability to make final decisions on award approvals.
  • Support Following Denial: If an application is denied or the applicant is deemed ineligible, steps will be taken to assist them through referrals to community resources.
