Water Resources Center East Loop Facility

The East Loop Laboratory facility has laboratory space, flow supply and flow measuring system to develop reasonably large-scale models. The facility includes an eight-foot wide, four-foot deep, 48- feet long adjustable slope flume with nominal discharge capability ranging from 0.2– 20 cfs. The facility includes a dedicated image collection system in both visible and IR range (use of thermal strobes is a unique feature of this facility), three 3D ADV probes (two of these instruments can be operated in shallow 2D flows), three mechanical (price-type) velocity meters, 12 pressure-transducer depth loggers, one ultrasonic time-of-flight velocity instrument. In addition to these capabilities, the facility is shared with the U.S. Geological Survey Lubbock Field Office and as such, additional measuring tools can sometimes be arranged. Dr. T.G. Cleveland has experience as an industrial millwright and the skill to supervise the fabrication or directly fabricate most components of large-scale models. Research graduate and undergraduate students possess a wide variety of skills from a licensed plumber to skilled welder that greatly extend the capability of the facility.
