Rebecca Maloney grew up in the Texas panhandle and moved to Lubbock in 2010.  She graduated Cum Laude with her BS in Biology from West Texas A&M in 2006.  While she was a student, she worked in a molecular microbiology laboratory at the USDA-ARS in Bushland.  After completing her bachelors, she took a position at West Texas A&M as microbiology laboratory manager in a dynamic research group.  While working, she completed her MS in Animal Science (2010) with emphasis on microbiology and epidemiology.  Rebecca continued managing the research laboratory until early spring 2015 when she joined the Laboratory Safety Section at EHS.

Over the years, Rebecca gained extensive experience shipping hazardous materials domestically and internationally and has completed multiple biosafety training programs including the Biosafety and Biosecurity Training Course in Ft. Collins, Control of Biohazards Course at John Hopkins and the BSL-2 Training through the International Biosafety Training Center at UTMB Galveston.
