Glenda Mathis currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of the YWCA of Lubbock. She assumed that position in 2008 and has been instrumental in growing the organization to include many community service projects including the prestigious Legacy Event Center, the J.T. and Margaret Talkington YWCA at Sun ‘n Fun, and most recently, The YWCA on University. The YWCA of Lubbock is the largest social service nonprofit serving the Lubbock community and offers childcare services to more than 1200 children daily through Head Start, Early Head Start and after school programming. The YWCA of Lubbock offers more than 14 distinct programs including childcare and afterschool services, health and wellness activities, teen services, women’s health, women’s leadership as well as general exercise and fitness for the community.Under her leadership the YWCA has brought many programs to Lubbock youth such as the Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Asset model and Lemonade Day. Prior to joining the YWCA, Ms. Mathis worked in education and childcare services where she served as Vice President and General Manager of the Education Group for Primedia Workplace Learning and focused on developing NAEYC accredited early childhood centers in workplace settings. Ms. Mathis is a successful grant writer and has produced several publications and videos on topics related to education, child development, and nonprofit management issues. She received a M.Ed. and B.S. in Mathematics and English from the University of Houston. Additional education includes completion of the Nonprofit Executive Program from the University of Notre Dame. Ms. Mathis was awarded the CFRE designation in 2017 and has been honored as a Robbie McGrew Champion for Children and the 2017 AFP Fundraising Professional of the Year and the Robert Duncan Community Champion Award.
