Texas Tech University

Note from Training Director

Dear Intern Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the doctoral internship at the Texas Tech University Student Counseling Center. We are committed to the development of emerging professionals in psychology and are dedicated to making the intern training year a valuable and unforgettable experience for our interns. We really enjoy and value training, and all members of the professional staff are a part of intern training.  The Sports Psychology Track is new as of 2023-2024.  This track gives the intern the opportunity to train both in general Health Service Psychology and also to learn how to apply their skills in the Athletics setting.  This is a 50/50 appointment.  As a half time intern at the Student Counseling Center, you will be able to choose from the following rotations: Eating Disorders, Supervision Specialty, Addiction, and Creative Interventions, among others. Furthermore, you will also co-lead one group each semester, specifically we offer three kinds of group:  Support Groups, Skills Groups, and Interpersonal Groups.  Please take some time to view the pictures of our center as we are fortunate to have exceptional facilities.  Some may have questions about our west Texas location. Lubbock has a lot to offer such as a unique variety of restaurants, great live music, high quality performances, a low cost of living, and easy commutes. The campus is beautiful and hosts many different events such as plays, concerts, cultural events, and sports. There are also many exciting day trip locations including two nearby canyons that both offer hiking and horseback riding. If you have any questions or concerns as you navigate the application and interview process, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Marie Moerkbak, Ph.D.
