Outreach & Engagement

The School of Theatre & Dance is dedicated to outreach and engagement. Understanding that art does not exist in a vacuum, we encourage students to think of Lubbock as their campus. To that end, every student in each program takes a semester-long course, Theatre and Dance in the Community, where they serve the needs of diverse agencies with constituents who have had little to no experience in the arts.

Many of our student organizations also serve the community, not only to raise funds for important causes, but also to bring the arts to unlikely environments. The School of Theatre & Dance, for example, spent an entire season away from our theatre, finding both site-specific and found spaces that serve the community (a Nissan dealership, an equestrian center, an art gallery, and a ranching heritage center, among other places).

Students in the School of Theatre & Dance learn to be global citizens, dedicating their time and efforts first to understand and then to better the world around them.
