Mission:WiSE is an internationally recognized leader in research, education, and knowledge transfer focusing on the effects of wind on society and the environment.
Vision:The WiSE Research Center will continue to perform advanced and innovative multidisciplinary research to mitigate the deleterious effects of windstorms on society, and to utilize the beneficial effects of wind. Through research, we provide educational experiences that prepare students for technical and leadership roles in private practice, industry, government and academia. |
Goals for 2011:
Goal 1. Research and Academic Excellence: Be a world leader in integrated multidisciplinary wind-related research and education.
- Utilize the inherent strength and creativity of multicultural, interdisciplinary teams to perform world-class research.
- Build upon the existing WiSE observational facilities to create an unmatched suite of world-class research facilities dedicated to observing the detailed structure of the lower atmosphere and understanding its impact on the built environment.
- Extend the quality and quantity of research activities to enhance our national and international reputation for research excellence.
- Develop the next generation of wind scientists and engineers to serve our country and the world.
- Increase competitive research funding awarded to the Center through enhanced grantsmanship and collaborative team building.
- Recruit high-quality domestic and foreign students.
- Work with the Texas Tech University administration to pursue targeted faculty hires that impact the pursuit of building wind-related research excellence.
- Make targeted facility acquisitions to effectively serve our faculty and develop unmatched wind-related research capability.
- Provision of resources and time for faculty to fulfill their research ambitions.
- Resources for student stipend to attract high-quality students.
- Provision of stable, non-competitive base funding to maintain staff and research infrastructure.
- Provision of additional land at the Reese Technology Center to support enhanced research activities.
- Overcoming of traditional academic boundaries and their adverse impact on interdisciplinary research.
- With the unique talents and capabilities of WiSE as a foundation, enhance internal and external relationships to provide a growing network of opportunities and partners.
- Proactively cultivate positive relationships with other university departments and centers to expand faculty participation in WiSE.
- Work with the National Institute for Renewable Energy (NIRE) and the National Wind Resource Center (NWRC) to foster wind energy research excellence at Texas Tech University.
- Write collaborative proposals with national laboratories, other academic institutions and private industry.
- Collaborate in research and exchange of students with foreign academic institutions.
- Enhancing Texas Tech University's visibility with relevant external entities.
