About
The Morrow Pilot Plant serves as the core training system for Chemical Engineering seniors enrolled in ChE 4330: Startup and Operating Industrial Scale Equipment I & II.
Students learn how real natural gas dehydration works by operating a scaled, functional natural gas distillation unit. All operations are performed under direct faculty supervision with strict safety protocols.
This plant allows students to:
- See how process equipment behaves outside a textbook
- Develop engineering intuition through real equipment challenges
- Understand the differences between trayed and packed columns
- Diagnose issues, make adjustments, and observe system responses
- Build confidence in a professional, industrial-style setting
This is not a research facility. It exists solely to support student learning, skill development, and experiential training.
SAFETY & TRAINING
The Morrow Pilot Plant operates under strict academic safety standards. Students receive training on:
- Natural gas dehydration hazards
- PPE usage
- Emergency procedures
- Lockout/tagout concepts (academic-level)
- Safe startup and shutdown practices
