Become a Member of ACE

The Association of Competitive Engineers (ACE) welcomes Texas Tech University students interested in developing their engineering skills through hands-on projects, robotics competitions, technical education, and collaborative research. Whether you are new to robotics or already have experience in design, manufacturing, or programming, ACE provides opportunities to learn and contribute.

Students interested in joining ACE can begin the membership process through TechConnect. Members must complete the required shop safety certifications and meet ACE's dues requirements to participate in applicable activities.

Membership Requirements

ACE members must complete the required shop safety certifications, including ME Shop Basic and ME Shop Advanced (Mill/Lathe). Members are also responsible for meeting the organization's dues requirements. Students can connect with ACE officers to learn more about the membership process and opportunities to participate.

Open Labs and Teaching Nights

ACE hosts regular open lab sessions where students can develop technical skills, collaborate on projects, and learn from other members. Tuesday sessions include teaching nights covering engineering topics and practical skills relevant to robotics development.

  • Tuesdays: 7:00–8:30 p.m. (Open Lab and Teaching Nights)
  • Saturdays: 11:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. (Open Lab)
  • Location: ACE Lab, Building 460, Reese Technology Center

Join a Combat Robotics Team

ACE currently has eight student-led combat robotics teams that design, manufacture, assemble, test, and improve their own robots. Team members gain practical experience in computer-aided design (CAD), fabrication, electronics, testing, and engineering problem-solving while preparing for competitions and exhibitions.

Students interested in joining a combat robotics team are encouraged to attend an open lab or ACE meeting and speak with the organization's officers about available opportunities. Members can develop their skills through teaching nights and hands-on experience while contributing to the engineering design process.

Connect With ACE

Stay connected with ACE through TechConnect and the organization's Discord community. Students can also contact the leadership team for information about membership, upcoming activities, and opportunities to get involved.
