Dr. Stance Hurst investigated the use of drones to map straigraphy and artifact distributions. Paper Link.
Graduate Student Research
Current student, Cameron Ditore, is examining the use of photogrammetry to document bone beds.
Megan Ostrenga examined the feasibility of using photogrammetry-derived 3D models for research access to museum collections by modeling and comparing 60 Casas Grandes pottery vessels. Her findings showed that the digital models were reliable substitutes for physical objects, supporting increased accessibility and reduced handling of collections.
Thesis Title: Photogrammetric Modeling of Museum Collections for Researcher Access
Darcy Phillips investigated how virtual reality exhibits function in museum settings, focusing on whether immersive experiences meet visitor expectations through survey research conducted at the Lubbock Lake Landmark.
Thesis Title: A Study of Audience Expectations of Immersive Virtual Reality Museum Exhibits
Alyssa Dewaele explored how museums and heritage sites are incorporating augmented and virtual reality technologies into mobile applications using a cross-sectional survey approach.
