Personal Travel

Alongside living with a host family, the chance to travel all around Spain and Europe is one of the most appreciated and rewarding opportunities for students during their time abroad.

Sevilla offers different transportation options to travel both locally and internationally and is well connected to the major European cities.  Students can take advantage of long weekends to plan their own personal travels.

Traveling by train

RENFE is Spain's national railway company, running most regional and high-speed trains (AVE) on the country's extensive railway system. Sevilla’s main train station is called Santa Justa and is located in the eastern part of the city center, very close to the TTU Sevilla Center. This station provides regular services to destinations all over Andalucía (Córdoba, Granada or Cádiz) and the rest of Spain (Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia). The high-speed train (AVE) is the best way to travel from Sevilla to Madrid or Barcelona and viceversa.

Tickets can be purchased at www.renfe.com or at the train station. Some users find it easier to pay via PayPal.

Traveling by plane

With numerous discount airlines, traveling by plane is a popular option to travel both inside and outside of Spain.

When flying abroad, we recommend that you have a look at the practical information section before starting your trip regarding security regulations or baggage limits. Do not forget to include some essential and valuable items in your carry-on bag, such as identification papers and documents (passport or VISA) or prescriptions and medications.

A special bus (EA) that links the Santa Justa train station with the Sevilla airport is available. Timetable and stops can be checked out at www.tussam.es/en

The Sevilla international airport (SVQ) offers daily air service to major European cities and the rest of Spain.  Close to Sevilla, in Málaga, there is another airport that also provides international service as entry and exit for many travelers.

The main airline company operating in Spain is www.iberia.com. In addition, there are low fare airlines company that fly from Sevilla International Airport: Ryanair, Vueling, EasyJet, etc.

Traveling by bus

Additionally, catching a bus is a very easy and affordable way to travel around Spain. There are different types of bus lines linking Sevilla to other cities and towns in Spain in addition to long-distance buses that include international routes to Andorra, France and Portugal. The most important bus company is Alsa.

There are two bus stations in Sevilla, both located in the city center:
- Plaza de Armas Bus Station, mainly for regional destinations and some long-distance routes.
- Prado de San Sebastián Bus Station, offering some long-distance services as well as other destinations in south and east Andalucía.

Other things to consider when booking personal travel

While we encourage personal travel to explore Spain and surrounding countries, enriching the cultural experience and enhancing personal growth, be mindful that your travels don’t compromise academic performance.  Students need to look carefully at their calendars to ensure that their personal travel dates do not conflict with their academic activities. Personal travel is not considered a legitimate excuse for a class absence.

Personal travel is not subject to approval from the TTU Sevilla staff, nevertheless, for their safety, students are required to fill out a travel form so that the staff knows where they are. This will help to locate and contact students in the event of an emergency.

Students’ local health insurance also works in other parts of Spain and Europe. The customer service number for Spain and for the rest of the world can be found on the back of the insurance card, which students are strongly recommended to always carry with them.
