M.S. in Kinesiology Admissions
Overview
Applications for admission are accepted year-round, but students may only apply to start the program in the fall or spring semester. Admission decisions are made based on a holistic review of a students background, past academic performance, career aspirations, and letters of recommendation. Graduate faculty will make a decision concerning admission once the application is referred to the department from the Graduate School. All items required by the department, as listed below, should be uploaded onto the Graduate School application system.
Students applying to the Master's degree program in Kinesiology must choose from three concentrations. The Motor Behavior and Exercise and Sport Psychology concentration is designed for students interested in advanced study within sport psychology and/or motor learning, development and control. The Human Performance concentration is designed to prepare students for careers specializing in maximizing health and physical performance. The Exercise Physiology concentration is designed for students interested in pursuing careers in allied health (e.g., cardiac rehabilitation) or research in exercise physiology.
Departmental Admission Requirements
- Personal Statement – This is a critical document the Admission Committee considers.
Your personal statement is your opportunity to share with the Admissions Committee
why you are applying to the graduate program and the specific concentration, emphasizing
how completing this program will help you meet your career goal(s). This statement
is also an opportunity to share your experiences and/or explain gaps or reason(s)
issues related to grades or other parts of your academic transcripts. Importantly,
a statement entirely generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) cannot recapitulate
your academic journey or your reason(s) for applying to any of our programs. Thus,
personal statements that appear to be generated by AI will likely not be considered
as these statements are vague and do not demonstrate authenticity. As noted below,
an AI honor statement is required to evaluate your application. Personal statement
criteria and requirements:
- This document should be limited to one page.
- Students must provide i) a clear description of their career aspiration, ii) why they believe a masters degree will help them achieve their career goal, and iii) what concentration they wish to be considered for during admission. This is very important as applications are reviewed by graduate faculty based on the concentration of study, and students are not allowed to switch concentrations after starting graduate school. Go to https://www.depts.ttu.edu/ksm/grad/ms_kinesiology.php to review the curriculum for each concentration of study.
- AI honor statement. Please provide an honest AI honor statement reflecting its use
in your personal statement using the templates below. Note that both of these statements
are allowable; in contrast, no personal statement should be generated primarily by
AI.
v I, ____________________ [insert your full name], affirm that I did not use any form of AI to generate any portion of my personal statement.
v I, ____________________ [insert your full name], affirm that I primarily wrote my personal statement, and I did not use it to generate the entire document; however, I used AI to clarify and/or enhance my statement.
- Resume or curriculum vitae with evidence of academic achievements and relevant experiences.
- An undergraduate degree in Kinesiology or a related field from an accredited institution and successful applicants typically have a GPA of ≥3.2 in their last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework for admission.
- Two letters of recommendation from professional references, with letters from academic professors preferred.
