Biomedical Acoustics Research Lab

Welcome!

We are a biomedical engineering research lab at Texas Tech University. Our work covers both fundamental and translational research in biomedical acoustics and ultrasound. We study the basic principles in the interaction of sound, especially ultrasound, with biological tissues. We also apply these principles to develop diagnostic and therapeutic technologies and test these technologies on lab animals. Ultimately, we aim to transfer our technologies to clinical studies and commercialize them. Our current research focuses on the following directions:
      (i) developing new elastography (elasticity imaging) methods based on acoustic surface waves and guided waves for medical diagnosis,
      (ii) developig novel acoustic signal aquisition and analysis methods for human health monitoring;
      (iii) applying focused ultrasound based methods to enhance the effectiveness of conventional cancer immunotherapy,
      (iv) applying focused ultrasound to transcranial neuromodulation or stimulation for treating neuro disorders,
      (v) exploring the possibility of using ultrasound for noninvasive selective ablation of microorganisms such as bacteria and virus, and
      (vi) designing high-performance focused ultrasound array transducers for therapeutic applications.

We welcome graduate and undergraduate students who are interested in our work to join our lab. We are open to collaborations with other labs, especially those at the Texas Tech Health Science Center! Please contact us if you are interested in working with us.
