Texas Tech University

Student Organizations

The Department of Natural Resources Management encourages its students to take advantage of the opportunity for service and involvement in student organizations.

Association of Natural Resource Scientists | ANRS

The Association of Natural Resource Scientists ("ANRS") is a professional research scientist organization which serves the Texas Tech University natural resources community. Our activities are geared to supporting the professional development of student members and to fulfill our role as a service organization for the betterment of our local and regional community. In so doing, ANRS promotes and facilitates research and the dissemination of such research by members, contributes to the education of students interested in natural resources management and associated fields, facilitates communication and scientific interaction among members of ANRS, NRM, Davis College, TTU, and other universities, and ultimately increases awareness and recognition of the undergraduate and graduate opportunities available in NRM and Davis College.

In addition to our focus on promoting membership participation at scientific meetings, we also aim to host guest speakers/lecturers, as well as to provide a general forum for open communication among students, faculty, and staff of NRM.

Student Association for Fire Ecology | SAFE

SAFE is a social student organization and professional forum for diverse students. Regular SAFE activities include social gatherings, participating in prescribed burning with regional partners, and learning about fire ecology research locally and through national networks. Texas Tech's chapter is one of several National and International SAFE chapters which form the National SAFE Section under the Association for Fire Ecology. As a representative of the Southern Great Plains Region we provide an intricate component to this diverse group. As a portion of SAFE we assist in the development of annual objectives and goals promoting the progression of the field of fire ecology. Activities involve local meeting as well as opportunities for regional and international meetings as well as internal and external networking opportunities. Through active chapter membership SAFE at TTU is dedicated to continuing and developing new and innovative research and opportunities.
