Student Legal Services hosts workshops and educational programs that help students better understand their legal rights, responsibilities and options. Programs cover practical topics students may encounter while living, working and studying in Lubbock.

Medical Power of Attorney Workshop
Students can complete a medical power of attorney and related documents with assistance from Student Legal Services.
- No appointment is required.
- Parents do not need to attend.
- Documents can be completed the same day.
- HIPAA authorization forms are available.
- Student Legal Services cannot notarize medical powers of attorney prepared outside the office.
Mindful Matador: Legal Wellness
Stay Safe in a New City
This program introduces students to legal and safety issues they may encounter while living in Lubbock, including local and Texas laws, auto accidents, working with legal professionals, rideshare safety and apartment living.
The program is part of the legal track of Mindful Matador and introduces students to additional legal wellness programming available throughout the year.
Mindful Matador: Legal Wellness
Mindful Matador: Legal Wellness helps students build practical knowledge about common legal situations before a problem occurs. Programs are designed to make legal topics easier to understand and give students tools for navigating everyday situations safely and responsibly.
Topics May Include
- Tenant rights and apartment living
- Auto accidents and insurance issues
- Consumer rights and financial concerns
- Interacting with law enforcement and legal professionals
- Personal safety and rideshare services
- Estate planning and medical decision-making documents
- Other legal issues affecting college students
