American and European Literature

Of the 38,000 volumes in Rare Books, more than half are literary in nature.  The in-print collection of Joseph Conrad is perhaps the strongest and most complete in the world.  Other authors with significant representation include John Donne, Rudyard Kipling, W. H. Auden, Walt Whitman, Marianne Moore, Kay Boyle, Arthur Schnitzler and James Dickey. Many of the collections include first and signed editions as well as letters, diaries and other manuscript materials.   The 405 uniformly bound volumes of the Teatro Español Collection contain over 3,700 separate Spanish plays ranging in date from the early 1800's to the mid 1900's.
