Transformational Experiences

The Center for Transformative Undergraduate Experiences (TrUE) supports student success by ensuring every TTU undergraduate has the opportunity to engage in transformational learning experiences:

These experiences occur in the classroom, industry, the community, and through co-curricular activities.

Although we know not all of these tortugas make it to maturity, we have increased the percentage of turtles to ever reach the ocean after hatching.

Undergraduate Research

Undergraduate Research is an inquiry or investigation conducted by an undergraduate student that makes an original intellectual or creative contribution to the discipline. Undergraduate Research provides the opportunity to learn more about a particular field of interest, and gives students a chance to test and apply new theories that may solve pressing, real-world problems.

Service Learning

Through service learning, the needs of both the community partner and student are considered equally in the development of projects and service initiatives. In addition, in service learning there is an emphasis on critical reflection in which students are asked to make connections between course content and the service experience.

Internships provide students with direct experience in a work setting—usually related to their career interests—and to give them the benefit of supervision and coaching from professionals in the field. If the internship is taken for course credit, students complete a project or paper that is approved by a faculty member.

Study Away

Faculty-led domestic and international “study away”> trips expose students to the rich multicultural history of the United States and allow them to conduct field research and participate in personal reflection during the experience.

In Your Words

Service Breaks gave me a different perspective on volunteering, helping those in need, and a successful career. These values are overlooked in traditional academics, but valued greatly by others.

In Your Words

It's not about the things we read. This week is about seeing the world beyond our own door step, stepping beyond our own comfort zones in order to make meaningful contributions.

In Your Words

Service Break trips help me learn about issues facing society and the world. Then, I get to do a small part in helping alleviate those issues. It really opens my eyes to things I don't always experience.

In Your Words

TrUE gave me support and confidence to complete a research project, but also to get the necessary funding to present important results. As a grad student, I get to use the skills built while in TrUE.
