The Emerging Research Scholars (ERS) program serves as the premier introductory pathway for Texas Tech University students looking to explore undergraduate research. Crafted with student schedules in mind, this minimally time-intensive program features flexible online modules and foundational activities, laid out within the semester framework, that introduce students to the research landscape without overwhelming their academic bandwidth.

While ERS students do not receive funding, programming equips participants with the essential skills to stand out as competitive candidates for high-level faculty collaborations.

Students who successfully complete ERS assignments will be invited to join the Emerging Research Scholars Summit to round out the full ERS experience and set them up to receive priority consideration for Associate Research Scholars support.

What to Expect as a Emerging Research Scholar

Kickstart your research journey with this flexible, asynchronous program designed to build your foundational skills at Texas Tech University. 

• Flexible Hours: Complete 8–10 hours of online modules at your own pace throughout the semester.
• Practical Skills: Gain hands-on experience in scholarly writing by learning to craft a well developed research abstract.
• Essential Topics: Learn foundational research tactics, including:
  • What research looks like in different disciplines 
  • How to find a mentor and get paid
  • Mentor and mentee expectations and responsibilities 
  • How to conduct yourself in a research environment

Wrapping up your ERS experience!

• The ERS Summit: Successfully completing your online assignments earns you an exclusive invitation to the Emerging Research Scholars (ERS) Summit. (November 12, 2026)
