Associate Research Scholars

Associate Research Scholars (ARS) engage in undergraduate research projects under the direction of a Texas Tech faculty mentor. The ARS track provides two forms of financial support for undergraduate research projects:

  1. Faculty Research Support (FRS): All ARS faculty mentors receive a $500 research expense budget. These funds can be used to cover expenses that meet the univeristy definition for restricted research expenses.
  2. Hourly Student Research Compensation: Texas Tech undergraduate students who are not receiving course credit for their time on a faculty-led research project can request an allotment of 150 hours of paid research funding. Student's receive $10/hr for their work on the project under their mentor's supervision.

While you do not have to complete the Emerging Research Scholars (ERS) track to request ARS funding, students who do, receive priority consideration in funding decisions. As ARS funds are highly competitive, we recommend students plan to apply in early Fall.
