TTU Chess Scholarship Application
Texas Tech Chess offers competitive scholarship opportunities for qualified undergraduate and graduate students with strong chess backgrounds. Scholarships support students who will contribute to the university's competitive chess program while pursuing their academic goals at Texas Tech.
About the Scholarship
TTU Chess scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. Applicants are evaluated using their chess experience, competitive ratings, academic background and the information provided through the scholarship application.
Competitive Scholarship
Scholarship awards are available to qualified undergraduate and graduate students and are based on the strength of the applicant's chess and academic background.
In-State Tuition
Students who receive a TTU Chess scholarship may qualify for in-state tuition at Texas Tech University.
Collegiate Competition
Scholarship recipients are expected to contribute to the Texas Tech Chess Program and represent the university through competitive chess and program activities.
Recipient Requirements
Students who receive a TTU Chess scholarship must continue to meet the program's academic and participation expectations.
To Maintain the Scholarship
- Maintain a Texas Tech GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Fulfill the Chess Program's volunteer requirements.
- Meet the participation expectations established by the Texas Tech Chess Program.
Application Materials
The scholarship application asks for information about your educational background, chess experience and competitive ratings. Applicants should provide their current US Chess Federation (USCF) and FIDE ratings when applicable.
Additional materials are also required as part of the scholarship application process.
Résumé
Provide a résumé outlining your academic, chess and other relevant experience.
Recommendation
Submit a letter of recommendation according to the instructions provided by the Chess Program.
Short Response
Complete the requested open-ended response in no more than 250 words.
