ABA Services

The Burkhart Center offers several services based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. These services include Focused ABA, social skills classes, and contract consultations.

  • Focused ABA: Provides targeted support for behavioral and learning challenges faced by individuals with autism across the lifespan. The program provides direct support for the individual with autism and training for parents and other professionals to support the treatment in the home and community.
  • Social Skills Classes: Provides targeted intervention and support for individuals with autism to develop social skills related to academic, social, and vocational success.
  • Contracted consultations with outside agencies: ABA Services clinical staff will also contract with other agencies to provide consultations or training related to effective intervention with people with autism.

Burkhart Transition Academy

The Burkhart Transition Academy provides post-secondary educational strength-based assessment and programming to aid in the successful transition of people with ASD into higher education, vocational or other settings. Classes for young adults with ASD who have completed high school meet five days per week to teach life skills, job skills, and social skills.

CASE: Connections for Academic Success and Employment

CASE is an innovative, individualized fee-for-service, college program that supports students with complex disabilities, including autism, to successfully integrate into college. Through CASE, students gain the necessary skills to pursue an academic degree or certification in a field of their choice. CASE faculty and staff serve as the liaisons between the enrolled student and the college/university system, helping them navigate the academic and social complexities that are fundamental to college life.

Burkhart Walk for Autism Awareness

Burkhart Walk for Autism Awareness is held annually to promote autism awareness in the community and celebrate the lives of individuals with ASD and the families and professionals who support them.

Camp Burkhart

Camp Burkhart, a summer day camp for children with autism, provides structured enrichment opportunities while increasing competency in social interaction for children with ASD. The camp is funded by a generous gift from Scott Malouf.

Family Fun Events

Family Fun Eventsare designed for children with ASD and their families to participate in fun activities throughout the year. These events also provide opportunities for parents to share their experiences with one another.

Parents' Night Out

Parents' Night Out is open to children with ASD and their siblings ages 3-13 once a month during the school year. Supervised care in a fun environment is offered so that parents can enjoy a night out.

Performing Arts Activities

The Burkhart Center partners with the College of Visual and Performing Arts to offer theatre and dance classes for elementary and high school students on the spectrum. We also support the BurkTech Players, a theatre performance group composed of TTU students and young adults with ASD from the community.

The Burkhart Family Endowed Lecture Series

The lecture series brings distinguished speakers in ASD education to Texas Tech University and the Lubbock community.

Annual Autism Conference

The Annual Autism Conference is jointly sponsored by Region 17 Education Service Center and the Burkhart Center to
provide continuing education and training to educators and parents in the South Plains area.
