The Department of Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures provides the gateway to other languages and cultures, from all over the globe. We offer instruction in 16 languages, with exciting opportunities to major, minor, study abroad, and build professional credentials for the academic or corporate workplace. Our impressive programs for both undergraduate and graduate study span a number of languages and areas of concentration, and CMLL is emerging as a leader in innovative language-learning curriculum designs.

World Class Faculty

The department is comprised of a scholarly community of accomplished faculty whose instruction and research span world literature, applied and theoretical linguistics and second language studies, the Classics, and related culture. Our faculty are known for exceptional teaching, diverse research and publication, and deeply involved service to their fields. Undergraduates will appreciate the progressive skills-building curricula, and graduate students will find the scholarly environment of the department second to none. The department has several noted specialists, and hosts several top-of-the-field academic journals.

Professional Advising

Professional advising is always available for all students, undergraduate or graduate. The CMLL Advising, Recruitment & Retention Center is located in Rooms 200A and 200B of the Foreign Languages Building.

Free Spanish Tutoring

The Language Learning Laboratory & Resource Center provides free professional Tutoring and a free Writing Lab in Spanish. The Consultants are available at a variety times, and again—this is a completely free service.g.
