Spanish Placement Exam

The department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures (CMLL), working with the Office of the Registrar and Information Technology, is introducing an online Spanish placement exam to more accurately place students into Spanish courses appropriate to students' skill levels in that language. This Spanish placement test does not award credit. It is for PLACEMENT PURPOSES ONLY. The SPLEX is set to launch for the Spring 2018 advanced registration period.

CMLL recommends that students who have taken at least two years of high school Spanish or who are heritage speakers of Spanish wait until the placement test is available during the Spring 2018 advanced registration period to register for Spanish.

Students who are not in the above categories and/or students interested in minoring, majoring, or double majoring in Spanish should not wait to enroll in Spanish courses and should contact CMLL Advisor Stephanie Santos for assistance and/or information.

Important Notes

  • The CLEP test (for placement and credit) will continue to be available through Academic Testing Services.
  • SPAN 2607-003 is reserved for heritage speakers of Spanish. Students interested in taking this course should contact Dr. Diego Pascual to request approval to register.
