Guidelines To Assist With Making "Smart Choices"
Sometimes it's difficult to know what to eat, how much to eat, when to eat, etc., and it seems like you hear something new everyday. That's why the USDA discontinued MyPyramid and released it's new MyPlate to help make eating healthy easier. MyPlateInstead of worrying about how many servings of each food group, aim to make your plate look like the one below and you can be sure that you are getting everything your body needs.
- Enjoy your food, but eat less.
- Avoid over-sized portions.
Foods to Increase
- Make half of your plate fruits and vegetables.
- Make at least half of your grains whole grains.
- Switch to fat-free or low-fat (1%) milk.
Foods to Reduce
- Compare sodium in foods like soup, bread, and frozen meals - and choose the foods with lower numbers.
- Drink water instead of sugary & energy drinks.
