Course Credit | Undergraduate Research
- Virtually every department and program in the College offer a "4000" course for Individual Study. It can be repeated for up to 6 hours credit and, depending upon department/program, sometimes requires consent of the instructor.
- The Department of Human Development and Family Studies also offers a course number (4320) for Research in HDFS. The following information comes from the official course listing: "Prerequisite: HDFS 3390 or consent of instructor. Supervised independent work in selected areas. May be repeated once for credit." Given the reference to "independent work," it would appear that 4320 is most appropriate for when a student is conducting his/her own new study, whereas 4000 would be most appropriate for students assisting on faculty members' research.
- The Retailing (formerly Merchandising) program, now within the Department of Nutrition, Hospitality, and Retailing (NHR), also offers a course number (MER 4330) for Merchandising Research. The official description is as follows: "Prerequisite: A grade of C or higher in MER 3340, 3370, MKT 3350. The role of research in the merchandising process; emphasis on applications-oriented techniques and processes for implementation. " Students form teams with other students to work on client-sponsored projects, culminating in an assembly of presentations to the clients and other students.
