Texas Tech University

Vegetable Garden Project

Students helped move the planters from the back of the greenhouse to their place in the new vegetable garden. The new vegetable garden at the Texas Tech Horticulture Greenhouse will be comprised of raised planters. Some of the raised beds are wooden, but new beds will be repurposing galvanized stock tanks. The stock tanks will be filled with a well-balanced garden soil mixture (top-soil, manure and peat moss) and planted with trial vegetables. Already planted is asparagus, tomato, peppers and eggplant. The new stock tank beds add circular patterns into a mostly linear garden. As an entry feature, some of the tanks will be utilized as a water feature. The gardens will be an excellent teaching medium.
