Dr. Bill Gelber
Associate Professor - Acting/Directing
Bill Gelber is an Associate Professor and Director of Theatre in the School of Theatre and Dance.
He teaches Acting, Directing, Pedagogy, and Period Styles. He has a BA in Drama from
the University of Houston, an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M, and
an MFA in Directing and a PhD in Theatre from the University of Texas at Austin. He
has directed over fifty productions from many different genres including plays by
Chekhov, Pinter, Williams and Pirandello. His fields of research are acting and directing
methods, theatre pedagogy, the theories and practices of Bertolt Brecht, and Early
Modern Staging, particularly of Shakespeare. He received the President's Excellence
in Teaching Award for 2012. He has been at Tech since 2002. He is married to Debbie
and has three children, Devon, Alex, and James.
