On August 15th, 2015 at the Texas Tech Equestrian Programs Advisory Board Annual meeting it was announced that anonymous donors have agreed to fund the Equestrian Programs of Texas Tech's Department of Animal and Food Sciences with a commitment to match gifts made by third-party donors in support of the endowment programs housed within the Equestrian Center. The anonymous donors will give a maximum total of $500,000 ("Matching Funds") toward endowments benefitting the Equestrian Center's programs.

In order for the Equestrian Team to qualify for this generous matching opportunity, we must raise a minimum of $10,000. Other Equestrian Center teams and programs are eligible for this opportunity as well and funds will be allocated on a first come/first serve basis. For this reason, there is a sense of urgency. We must reach the $10,000 minimum to be eligible for the matching agreement – the matching is dollar for dollar up to a $100,0000 limit for each program.

It is important to keep in mind that these funds raised for the Equestrian Team will go into an endowment. This endowment will help our team become a self sustaining program. Endowments are the lifeline to many of Texas Tech's programs and are often referred to as "gifts that keep on giving". An endowment is set up as a savings account that is invested with other funds and grows over time. The corpus of the endowment is never spent. The Texas Tech Foundation requires a minimum of $10,000 to establish an endowment and then the returns on this endowment are available year over year to assist the designated program with its needs. For this reason, it is critical to keep in mind that this donation is separate and in addition to normal fundraising that the Equestrian Team must do this year/every year for its operating needs.

Because of the dollar for dollar matching from this generous anonymous donor we would like to see the Equestrian Team meet this goal of raising $10,000 (up to $100,000) – it is truly an opportunity that may not come our way again and is a chance to be a part of establishing a legacy for this program in the years to come.
