Christy Petry

Assistant Coach

Christy Petry's love for horses and coaching is a true passion. As a child she was enthralled with all things agricultural, but at the top was Horse Judging. In 4-H she judged under Dr. Tina Anderson through Parker County 4-H, where she won a champion title at every major stock show in Texas and was high individual youth at the All American Quarter Horse Congress.

Christy's college journey began at North Central Texas College (NCTC) in Gainesville under Becky Terrel. She served as the team captain and accumulated a variety of awards including 2016 AQHA World Show Junior College Horse Judging Champion. Upon completing her A.S. with All Honors, she transferred to Texas Tech University to complete a B.S. in Agricultural and Applied Economics, and to continue her collegiate horse judging career. Under the coaching of Dr. Kelly Riccitelli she earned multiple awards, but at the top was her 2017 All American Quarter Horse Congress Senior College High Point Individual title. While these accomplishments have fulfilled Christy's "reach-for-the-stars" approach to life, she wanted to give back with the hopes to guide future Red Raider's in pursuit of their goals. In 2018, she was given the opportunity to step up as Assistant Coach for the Texas Tech Horse Judging Team and continue her education, pursuing her M.S. in Agricultural Economics. Currently she has accepted a position as a professor in the Agriculture Department at NCTC, and she was admitted into the Agricultural Education PhD program at Texas Tech under Dr. John Rayfield. Christy will continue to be the assistant coach of the TTU Horse Judging Team as she works on her Ph.D.

Marian Edelman once wisely said, "Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it." Christy's greatest life goal is to be more than just a learner of facts, but one day to make an impact on all types of individuals in our society in an effort to promote the importance of agriculture. Through her previous life experiences, and aspirations to acquire new experiences, she intends to make a valuable contribution to society and to Texas Tech University.
