About the Department
Established in 2017, the Department of Veterinary Sciences is designed to provide a greater focus on research, teaching, and outreach efforts in animal health and well-being and is intended to meet the educational and research needs of the animal-agriculture industry and the regional veterinary community. A part of the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources, the department is located on the Texas Tech University main campus in Lubbock. The department also serves as a linkage to the TTU School of Veterinary Medicine in Amarillo through joint appointments of several of our faculty members.
Office and laboratory spaces are in the Food Technology Building and Experimental Sciences II Building located in the heart of the Texas Tech University campus. Our research extends throughout the animal laboratory facilities, as well as the cattle, sheep and goat, swine, and equine facilities affiliated with the Davis College.
Masters Degree Program
A masters degree can be pursued in Animal Health and Industry. The degree is flexible and can be taken face-to-face, online or a hybrid of both. The degree has both a thesis and non-thesis option. The non-thesis option is interdisciplinary and can be finished in as little as one calendar year with only 30 course hours necessary to complete. Both thesis and nonthesis degrees are designed for those students who want to gain additional coursework, research skills and soft skills to assist them in pursuing interests related to animal care and health.
The Animal Health and Industry degree provides students with knowledge and skillsets to mitigate detrimental impacts of health issues in animals, including identification of major health issues and analysis and interpretation of research data.
