The Department of Veterinary Sciences is dedicated to advancing research and outreach in food animal health and well-being. Our mission is to support the educational and research needs of the animal-agriculture industry and the regional veterinary community, fostering innovation and excellence in veterinary care.

The Animal Health and Industry degree will provide students with knowledge and skillsets to design strategies to mitigate detrimental impacts of health issues in animals. This will include identification of major health issues and analysis and interpretation of research data.

Master’s Degree in

Animal Health & Industry

Pursue a flexible and comprehensive master’s degree in Animal Health and Industry, tailored to fit your schedule and career goals. Designed for students passionate about advancing their knowledge and skills in animal care and health, this option is an interdisciplinary pathway that can be completed in as little as one calendar year with just 30 course hours. The program can be completed in-person, online, or through a hybrid format of both modalities. To broaden your expertise, 6 of the required 30 hours must come from courses in communications, leadership, or business. This option is ideal for students looking for a streamlined, practical approach to enhancing their career opportunities in animal health and related industries.

A Master's Degree in Animal Health and Industry provides students with knowledge and skills to design strategies to mitigate detrimental impacts of health issues in animals. This includes identification of major health issues and analysis and interpretation of research data. It is designed for students who want to gain additional research skills, critical thinking about publications, viable laboratory techniques, and coursework to pursue interests in animal care and health for success in today’s marketplace. Students must be selected to work in the lab by a mentoring professor to complete research projects for their thesis.

A Focus on Research

Established in 2017, the Department of Veterinary Sciences is designed to provide a greater focus on research and outreach efforts in food animal health and well-being and is intended to meet the educational and research needs of the animal-agriculture industry and the regional veterinary community.

Research in the Department

Department Faculty & Staff

The department also serves as a linkage to the School of Veterinary Medicine in Amarillo through joint appointments of several of our faculty members. Office and laboratory spaces are in the Food Technology and Experimental Sciences II Building located in the heart of the Texas Tech University Campus. The department research extends to all the laboratory animal facilities, as well as the cattle, sheep and goat, swine, and equine facilities affiliated with the Davis College of Agriculture.
