Get involved

  • Join student organizations. Connect with peers who share your interests and explore leadership roles to build transferable skills.
  • Use TechConnect to find involvement opportunities and events that align with your passions
  • Attend events hosted by the Student Activities Board to network and discover new interests. 
  • Connect with alumni or professionals who can share their career stories and advice. Use platforms like LinkedIn or Techsan Connection to identify alumni in your industry.
  • Stay up-to-date on events and infosession with TechAnnounce. Update your TechAnnounce preferences to make sure you are subscribed to categories that interest you.

Develop self-awareness


  • Career and personality assessments: Take assessments like CliftonStrengths, Focus2, MBTI, or Strong244 to understand your personality, values, skills, and interests. Access those assessments here.
  • Keep a career reflection journal to help identify patterns and preferences. What has been your favorite role? Your least favorite role? What did those have in common?
  • Attend workshops or conferences (in-person or virtual) to gain insight into what is happening in your field and opportunities to network. 
  • Engage in career exploration sessions with the University Career Center staff.

Explore career paths for your major

  • Explore Red Raider GradStats to identify employers who have hired Texas Tech alumni with your major.
  • Use tools like O*Net and the Occupational Outlook Handbook from the Bureau of Labor Statistics to research job titles, salary data, required qualifications, and projected job growth for different occupations.
  • Watch career videos through CandidCareer+ to hear from real professionals about their day-to-day work. 
  • Conduct informational interviews with professionals in industries and positions you might be interested in. Ask questions about what they like, dislike, and what advice they have for individuals interested in their role.
