Competition among others with my degree made Texas a very competitive market. A job with my title in Texas often requires years of experience on top of a bachelor's or a master's degree. I felt like I could not compete within Texas having a bachelor's and only a couple years of intern experience. With that in mind, I sought positions in other states and West Virginia's Division of Natural Resources felt my resume and interview were worthy of a permanent position. There are two exciting aspects of the work that I do now. I can tell you that number one is the people I am working with. Socially, I have hit the jackpot. I finally found a permanent position where I can do my job with people I enjoy working with every day. Second, I enjoy the physical aspect of my job. My position as a fisheries tech is basically farming. We farm fish. Coming from Lubbock and having worked for the cotton and the pork industry, I fit in quite well with the farm work we do here at a fish hatchery. I love the work that I do and I am excited about future fish stocking seasons!

I contacted Taylor Johnston about two years ago because, on the University Career website, he was the expert on NRM resumes. He helped me out greatly with my CV and we email each other as we're old friends. He's a great asset to the department because he's personable and relatable. I give him 5 stars! This experience got me a seasonal job that led to a permanent state job. So, I give the University Career Center an A++. Taylor Johnston deserves extra snaps for his dedication and expertise. If I ever decide to leave this job for another, I am coming to him for interview advice.
