CECREH Showcases Leadership and Student Research at the 2025 Natural Hazards Workshop
July 2025
In July 2025, CECREH faculty and students participated in the 50th Annual Natural Hazards Workshop in Broomfield, Colorado. Hosted by the University of Colorado Boulder, the event convenes hundreds of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers working to advance disaster resilience and equitable recovery nationwide.
Dr. Rodrigo Costa, a core member of the CECREH leadership team, chaired the Researchers Meeting—a two-day symposium that featured over 30 presentations and roundtables across key tracks, including hazard mitigation, emergency management, and community well-being. His leadership highlighted CECREH's role in shaping national conversations about equitable disaster recovery.
Dr. Sara Hamideh also contributed to the Researchers Meeting by presenting in the session titled “Building Community Resilience Through Collaborative Approaches.” Her talk emphasized the value of interdisciplinary, cross-sector approaches to achieving inclusive recovery strategies.
Several CECREH-supported doctoral students attended the workshop as part of their professional development. These students had the opportunity to learn from leading disaster scholars, engage in cross-institutional networking, and share their research with national audiences.
Babatunde Lawal, a PhD student supported by CECREH, was selected to present during the Researchers Meeting. His presentation offered insight into post-disaster housing recovery, and the session provided valuable feedback and visibility for his work as part of CECREHs growing research portfolio.
From faculty leadership to student engagement, CECREHs presence at the 2025 Natural Hazards Workshop helped strengthen collaborations, elevate the Centers profile, and reaffirm our commitment to research that supports equitable, climate-resilient communities.
