Amin Sobhani participated in the 2026 NSF NCAR Education, Engagement, and Early-Career Development Advanced Study Program Summer Colloquium, Beyond Boundaries: Training Earth System Scientists and Engineers in Convergence Research for Compound Hazard Resilience. The program was held July 13–24 at NSF NCAR’s Mesa Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado.
The two-week intensive combined classroom instruction, project-based and experiential learning, peer learning, and group design-engineering activities. The curriculum addressed compound hazards, convergence research, systems engineering, and team science.
The experience strengthened cross-disciplinary collaboration, problem definition, systems thinking, and solution-oriented research.
Program activities included case studies, research and practitioner panels, scenario-based design activities, a Marshall Fire learning tour, and team presentations.
These approaches are directly relevant to CECREH Project 2C’s modeling of housing recovery as a coupled social, administrative, financial, and construction process.
