Rodrigo Costa and Elaina Sutley participated in the 2026 NHERI SimCenter Computational Symposium, held May 28–29 at the University of California, Berkeley.
Costa presented An Agent-Based Model for Coupled Housing and Household Recovery Simulation, highlighting findings from CECREH research on RAAbIT—Recovery Assessment using Agent-based Tools.
RAAbIT is designed to simulate post-disaster housing recovery using information that can become available within weeks of an event.
The model represents households, insurers, contractors, and system-level constraints and was evaluated using recovery following the 2017 Tubbs Fire and the 2018 Camp Fire in California. Its structure supports scenario testing for factors such as contractor availability and other recovery-system conditions.
Participation in the symposium connected CECREH’s housing-recovery modeling with broader computational research on disaster risk, simulation, and decision support.
