During summer 2026, Amin Sobhani served as a Disaster Housing Recovery intern with the National Low Income Housing Coalition’s Disaster Housing Recovery, Research, and Resilience initiative.
The internship focused on translating disaster-housing research and current events into policy analysis and public-facing communication. Amin contributed to written coverage of congressional activity, severe-weather impacts, housing legislation, disaster mitigation, and recovery policy.

The experience provided a practice-based view of how legislative change, administrative rules, and survivor perspectives shape disaster-housing policy.
Additional work included research on federal disaster-recovery legislation and the CDBG-DR framework, participation in a House Financial Services Subcommittee hearing, and advocacy meetings with U.S. Senate offices focused on survivor experiences and federal recovery reforms.
The internship strengthened connections between CECREH’s research on housing recovery systems and the policy, advocacy, and communication work required to translate research into practice.
