On January 22, 2025, members of the Center of Excellence in Climate Resilient and Equitable Housing (CECREH) participated in the NHERI SimCenter Community Roundtable on Post-Disaster Housing and Household Recovery. The event, hosted by Dr. Rachel Davidson (University of Delaware) as part of the SimCenter’s Socio-Economic Impacts and Recovery Working Group, brought together social science researchers, modelers, and practitioners to discuss critical issues in post-disaster housing recovery.
CECREH Director, Dr. Ali Nejat (Texas Tech University), and Co-PI, Dr. Elaina Sutley (University of Kansas), joined a panel of experts including Dr. Andrew Rumbach (Urban Institute, CECREH Advisory Board Member), and Demarcus Foster (Civic Heart) to share insights on the challenges and opportunities in post-disaster recovery.

The discussion explored key topics, including the interdependencies in the recovery process and the ways social, economic, and structural factors influence recovery timelines. It also addressed potential interventions to enhance post-disaster housing efforts and promote more equitable rebuilding initiatives, as well as strategies for scaling recovery efforts to effectively support communities at local, state, and federal levels.
