Applied Linguistics Graduate Minor

Applied Linguistics is offered as a minor for students who may find that either second language acquisition studies or second language instruction studies (or a combination) a useful complement to their major area of work. A doctoral minor consists of 18 hours of applied linguistics (LING) courses offered through the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures, as approved by the Program Director of Applied Linguistics. A minor at the master’s level consists of 6 hours of applied linguistics courses, as approved by the Program Director of Applied Linguistics.

Portuguese Graduate Minor

The minor in Portuguese is designed to offer both linguistic and cultural knowledge through comparative analysis of the cultures and literatures of Portuguese-speaking regions.

Linguistics Graduate Certificate

This program comprises a minimum of 12 hours in linguistics courses. It usually includes study in phonology, syntax, and semantics, but flexibility is essential in meeting the diverse backgrounds, motivations, and goals of the students.

Provides a meaningful and internally coherent course of study of language and linguistics to match the background, interests, and needs of the individual student.
