How It Works

CAMP is designed to create meaningful mentorship connections between Whitacre College of Engineering students and alumni. From matching to ongoing conversations, the process is built to make mentorship approachable, relevant, and valuable for everyone involved.

How Matching Works

Whitacre College of Engineering junior and senior students are automatically included in CAMP and paired with alumni mentors based on shared academic interests, career goals, industry background, and areas of expertise.

Each match is made with the goal of creating conversations that feel relevant, helpful, and personal.

By taking time to understand each participant’s interests and experiences, CAMP helps create mentorship relationships that go beyond surface-level networking and lead to more meaningful support.

Step 1: Eligibility & Enrollment

Eligible junior and senior students are automatically included in the program.

Step 2: Get Matched

Student information is reviewed and used to match each participant with an alumni mentor whose background aligns with their interests and goals.

Each match is designed to connect students with someone who can offer relevant perspective on navigating engineering coursework, internships, career planning, and the transition into the profession.

Step 3: Make the Connection

Once matched, students and mentors are introduced and begin connecting through conversations that fit their schedules and communication preferences.

Whether discussions happen virtually, by phone, or in person when possible, the goal is to create a consistent connection that feels supportive, flexible, and meaningful.

Step 4: Build the Relationship

Mentorship through CAMP is not about one conversation. It is about building a connection over time.

Students can ask questions, seek advice, and gain perspective on topics such as:

  • internships and career preparation
  • engineering industries and career paths
  • professional communication
  • balancing academic and career goals
  • transitioning from college to the workplace

Mentors provide encouragement, perspective, and real-world insight that can help students feel more prepared for what comes next.

What Participants Can Expect

For Students

  • Guidance from someone who has already navigated engineering school and the professional world
  • Insight into internships, careers, and workplace expectations
  • A connection that can help build confidence and direction

For Mentors

  • An opportunity to give back to the Whitacre College of Engineering
  • A chance to support and encourage the next generation of engineers
  • A meaningful way to share experience, perspective, and advice

A Mentorship Experience Built for Growth

Every mentorship connection will look a little different, but the purpose remains the same: to help students grow through real conversations with alumni who understand the path ahead.

CAMP is built to strengthen connections within the Whitacre College of Engineering community while helping students move forward with greater confidence, clarity, and support.
