For Mentors

The Career Advancement Mentoring Program (CAMP) gives Whitacre College of Engineering alumni the opportunity to support junior and senior students as they navigate the path from the classroom to their careers.

Your experience, perspective, and advice can help students gain clarity, confidence, and direction during a critical stage in their development.

Why Become a Mentor?

Many students don’t have access to real-world insight as they make decisions about internships, career paths, and their future in engineering.

As a mentor, you can help bridge that gap by sharing your experiences and offering guidance that goes beyond what students learn in the classroom.

Mentorship is a meaningful way to give back while helping shape the next generation of engineers.

The Impact You Can Make

Your guidance can help a student:

  • Better understand career paths within engineering
  • Prepare for internships and job opportunities
  • Build confidence in their abilities and decisions
  • Develop professional communication skills
  • Navigate the transition from college to the workforce

Even a few conversations can have a lasting impact.

What Mentorship Looks Like

Mentorship through CAMP is flexible and designed to fit your schedule.

  • Connect with a student based on shared interests or background
  • Communicate through virtual meetings, phone calls, or in-person when possible
  • Offer guidance, answer questions, and share your perspective
  • Build a connection that supports the student’s growth over time

There is no rigid structure—just a commitment to being present and engaged.

Time Commitment

We understand that your time is valuable. Mentorship typically involves:

  • Occasional check-ins or conversations throughout the semester
  • Flexible scheduling based on availability
  • A level of involvement that works for both you and your mentee

The goal is consistency, not complexity.

Who Should Become a Mentor

CAMP is open to Whitacre College of Engineering alumni who want to make a difference.

  • Professionals across all engineering disciplines
  • Early-career graduates as well as experienced professionals
  • Individuals willing to share insight, encouragement, and advice

If you’re willing to help guide a student, you’re qualified to be a mentor.

A Meaningful Way to Give Back

Mentorship is one of the most impactful ways to stay connected to the Whitacre College of Engineering.

By sharing your experience, you help strengthen the community while supporting students as they prepare to enter the profession.
