The department maintains field and laboratory equipment which is available for both undergraduate and graduate student research in physical geography and environmental studies. In addition to standard surveying and sediment analysis equipment, students have access to GPS receivers, dataloggers and field instrumentation.

During the summer intersession a physical geography field course is taught at the Texas Tech University Center at Junction, Texas. This campus facility encompasses 411 acres along the Llano River in the Texas Hill Country.
