Monsur Presents XR Innovation Center at College-wide Resilient Communities Conference

With sustainable food, fiber and resilient communities  in the spotlight, Texas Tech’s Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources launched its inaugural research conference on Thursday (Aug. 15) at the Mackenzie-Merket Alumni Center.

“This was a great opportunity for learning about the exciting research being done at Davis College, forging connections, sparking collaborations, and networking,” said Noureddine Abidi, Davis College Associate Dean for Research.

DoLA Students Bring New Entry Design to Oakmont Estates

The culmination of a year-long Texas Tech landscape architecture design project aimed at improving neighborhood drainage and frontage was highlighted this month by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the entrance to the Oakmont Estates neighborhood in southwest Lubbock.

“This was a good demonstration of engaged scholarship in which outreach occurs as a two-way street” said Daniel Phillips, an assistant professor within Tech’s Department of Landscape Architecture. “Community partners reach out to our department for advice and expertise, and we collaboratively develop designs that impact local stakeholders.”

Texas ASLA Design Competition Spotlights Davis College Students

Texas Tech's Department of Landscape Architecture students took home three awards in the categories of general design and residential design from the Texas Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects' 2024 Design Competition.

The projects showed work across topics such as early childhood nature play and residential design, said Kathryn Nelson, Senior Lecturer and Assistant Department Chair within the Department of Landscape Architecture. The projects were created during participation in the senior and graduate-level Design Studios.

Dept. of Landscape Architecture Launches Extended Reality Expo

On April 15, DoLA hosted an exhibition showcasing how its students are using gamification and augmented, virtual and mixed reality tools and technology for teaching innovations and research on the ground floor of the Texas Tech Dairy Barn.

“I believe these advanced and latest tools will shape the way we teach higher education courses in the future,” said Muntazar Monsur, an assistant professor within Department of Landscape Architecture. “This exhibition creates an opportunity to show the Texas Tech community a glimpse of that future.”
