With sustainable food, fiber and resilient communities in the spotlight, Texas Techs Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources launched its inaugural research conference on Thursday (Aug. 15) at the Mackenzie-Merket Alumni Center.
“This was a great opportunity for learning about the exciting research being done at Davis College, forging connections, sparking collaborations, and networking,” said Noureddine Abidi, Davis College Associate Dean for Research. “It was also an opportunity for top Davis College graduate students to present 3-minute style presentations.”
Among the programs presentations were:

In other action, program leaders announced the winners of the conferences three-minute presentations by Davis College students. Among those receiving honors were:
- First Place / Mollie Green, a graduate student with the Department of Veterinary Sciences. “Unraveling the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying intramuscular, subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue growth in beef cattle”
- Second Place / Katherine Coyle, a graduate student with the Department of Plant & Soil Science. “From Waste to Resource: Novel Slow-Release Fertilizer Promotes a Nitrogen Circular Economy while Improving Organic Carbon Dynamics in Soil”
- Third Place /Sarah Kane, a graduate student with the Department of Animal & Food Sciences. “The effect of odor background on olfactory detection thresholds in human and dogs”
