The Texas Tech University Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources is a leading agricultural college, with seven academic departments and numerous research centers and institutes. The College is committed to advancing knowledge by providing the highest standards of excellence in education, research, creative activity, outreach, and engagement for current and emerging agricultural and natural resource issues. A critical factor in reaching that mission is work of the Davis College committees.

 

Dean’s Advisory Committee

The Davis College Dean’s Advisory Committee is an advisory body to the Dean. The primary responsibility of the Dean’s Advisory Committee is to engage in the visioning process for the future of the college and to facilitate development and updating of the Davis College Strategic Plan. In addition, this committee will provide oversight for the implementation of Strategic Plan assessment activity.

Educational Enhancement and Curriculum Committee

The Davis College Education Enhancement and Curriculum Committee will serve as an advisory body to assist the Dean’s Office in strengthening the overall educational program of the college. This will include matters related to student advising, teaching, and student organizations and activities. The committee will advise the Dean’s Office on all matters related to curriculum—to include course/degree approvals, course/degree changes, and designated minors for both the residence and distance programs. In addition, the committee will be involved in activities related to the development, marketing, and offering of distance courses and programs.

Institutional Effectiveness Committee

The Davis College Institutional Effectiveness Committee will review annually the program assessment plans and provide feedback to the program/area and the Office of Planning and Assessment (OPA); will review annually the complete assessment cycle and provide feedback to the programs and OPA, such that all programs in the college are reviewed every five years; will set the minimum acceptable percentages for assessment outcomes, and approve any requested deviations from said minimum; additional charges as directed by the Dean.

International Research and Education Committee

The Davis College International Research and Education Committee will review and recommend policies and procedures related to all international programs including study abroad and international research agreements. The committee will also review and allocate college graduate student funding and scholarships and help advise the college and departments on changing immigration rules.

Mediation and Exit Interview Committee

The Davis College Mediation and Exit Interview Committee will help resolve disputes within the college from two primary areas. The first is between a faculty member and his/her supervisor, department chair, etc. (as noted in OP 32.32) over matters related to the faculty member’s annual performance evaluation. The second area involves a subgroup of the committee hearing cases related to grade appeals (as noted in OP 34.03). The committee will also be responsible for conducting exit interviews for all departing faculty (as noted in OP 32.14).

Outreach and Engagement Committee

The Davis College Outreach & Engagement Committee serves to promote O&E efforts within each department. Committee members identify the appropriate individuals within their departments to carry out O&E activities, as the committee itself usually does not execute events. The group meets monthly to share updates, coordinate efforts, review the calendar, share praise for great O&E efforts, oversee the Davis College Engaged Scholars Program, and support and encourage consistent engagement across the college.

This group also develops the criteria and procedures and oversees the annual process for awarding the Davis College Outreach Award to student organizations.

Promotion and Tenure Committee

The Davis College Promotion and Tenure Committee will serve to review all dossiers of faculty members put forth for promotion and the awarding of tenure. Following this review, the committee will convey their recommendations to the Dean. In addition, the committee will review dossiers for faculty members undergoing post-tenure review as well as graduate faculty applications, and convey their recommendations to the Dean.

Safety Committee

The Davis College Safety Committee will foster a culture that prioritizes laboratory safety in both research and classroom settings. Specific responsibilities include: facilitating a system to ensure that faculty, staff, and student workers have received adequate safety training with respect to working with hazardous chemicals, biological agents, mechanical devices and equipment, and handling of and interaction with animals and that such training is appropriately documented; ensuring that appropriate safety training is provided in all courses taught in Davis College that have content or activities with safety implications and that such training is documented; working with departments to ensure that inventories of chemicals are current and that chemicals are properly handled and stored; distributing university safety regulations and safety-related informational materials to departments in Davis College; and serving as a body that receives input on safety-related issues and concerns from Davis College faculty, staff, and students. The committee will advise the Dean on all matters related to safety of faculty, staff, and students in Davis College.

Scholarships and Awards Committee

The Davis College Scholarships and Awards Committee is responsible for:

  1. setting academic scholarship GPA and dollar amount guidelines based on available scholarship funds,
  2. selecting scholarship recipients for college and inter-department academic scholarships based on the selection criteria of each scholarship and the scholarship funds available,
  3. selecting students to participate in the Davis College government internship program, and
  4. selecting Davis College outstanding students recognized at the Ag Honors Banquet.
