Annual Events
Homecoming Breakfast
A Davis College tradition since 1961! The annual Homecoming Breakfast brings alumni and friends from all of our six departments and all graduating classes together with current students, faculty and staff. Inviting everyone back to campus the morning of the Homecoming football game, the breakfast promises food and fun with an opportunity to renew old friendships, make new ones, and celebrate the accomplishments of the college.
50th+ Class Reunion
A growing tradition, the 50th+ Class Reunion brings together alumni from the graduating classes of 50 years or more. Alumni and their family enjoy lunch and storytelling, followed by a campus bus tour.
Distinguished Alumni & Outstanding Young Alumni Awards
Since 1980, Davis College has been celebrating the successes of its alumni with the Distinguished Alumni and Outstanding Young Alumni Awards. The measure of a colleges distinction and influence depends greatly upon the achievements of its alumni and the positions they attain in their respective communities and fields of endeavor.
The purpose of this program is to recognize and honor Davis College alumni who have made significant contributions to society, and whose accomplishments and careers have brought distinction to the College and to the professions associated with agriculture and natural resources. These awards do more than honor these former students. They spotlight the accomplishments of the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources at Texas Tech University and thereby enhance the pride of alumni, students, faculty and staff. They also present to the people of Texas and the nation tangible evidence of the effectiveness of agricultural and natural resource programs at Texas Tech University.
Pig Roast
One of the largest and oldest traditions on campus, the annual Pig Roast is a celebration honoring teams and individuals who have distinguished themselves and the University during the past year. Scholarship donors and recipients, as well as outstanding leaders in the fields of agriculture and natural resources are recognized. The event provides an opportunity to say “Thank You!” to individuals and companies who have assisted in the activities of the College.
The Colleges Outstanding Agriculturalist Awards are presented each year in conjunction with the Pig Roast. Established in 1969, the awards were named after Gerald W. Thomas who severed as Dean of Agricultural Sciences from 1958 to 1970. The awards recognize one individual from three categories: Production, Agribusiness and Public Service, for their accomplishments and contributions to the industry. Winners do not have to be alumni of the College or Texas Tech University. These awards give us the opportunity to celebrate the professionals in agriculture and natural resources, and develop relationships across the industry.
Regional Alumni Receptions
Davis College invites alumni to join us for various alumni receptions throughout the state. These receptions are held in conjunction with professional development organizations annual conferences and conventions, including: Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, American Society of Landscape Architects – Texas Chapter, and Vocation Agricultural Teachers Association of Texas. You do not have to be a participant in, or registered for, the associated event in order to attend the alumni reception.
Support
All of our events are made possible by the undying support of alumni and friends. We welcome your help in supporting these traditions!
