Every year, there are many events and opportunities to tap into the Davis College community, enriching the experiences of faculty, staff, and students.

Alumni & Industry Awards

The Davis College Distinguished Alumni Awards recognize and honor Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources alumni who have made significant contributions to society, and whose accomplishments and careers have brought distinctive credit to the college and to the professions associated with agriculture and natural resources.

Distinguished Alumni Awards

The Davis College Outstanding Young Alumni Awards recognize Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources alumni who have graduated within the past 15 years, and whose accomplishments have already made a positive impact on the world.

Outstanding Young Alumni Awards

The Gerald W. Thomas Outstanding Agriculturalist Award honors individuals who have had a significant impact to the agricultural industry. Each year, outstanding practicioners in ag production, business, and public service are recognized by the Davis College for their contributions.

Outstanding Agriculturalist Awards

Texas Tech’s Davis College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources has presented its inaugural Davis College Legacy Family Award to the Brown family of Throckmorton, a multigenerational ranching family whose deep commitment to cattle production, education, and service has left a lasting mark on both the livestock industry and the university community. The award recognizes families spanning at least three generations of Davis College graduates.

The 30 Under 30 program celebrates 30 outstanding alumni under the age of 30 who are making a meaningful impact in the fields of agriculture, landscape architecture, and natural resources. These individuals are innovators, leaders, and changemakers — blazing trails and elevating their industries while staying rooted in the values of Davis College.

Davis College Ag Week is an annual, week-long celebration at Texas Tech University highlighting the agricultural heritage of West Texas while looking forward to the future of our region's food, fiber, landscapes, and natural resources. Ag Week events have a little something for everyone — students, alumni, faculty, and staff — and we can't wait to see you there!

Davis College Ag Week

The Davis College's Industry Innovation Challenge brings students and leaders across agriculture together, creating relationships and raising the bar on what industry and academia can accomplish.

The Industry Innovation Challenge is a one-day sprint where students tackle real-world challenges, working with industry mentors to develop innovative, market-informed solutions. Student teams present their ideas to judges, with each winning team member receiving a Davis College Scholarship.

About the Davis College Career Fair

A Davis College tradition since 1961! The annual Homecoming Breakfast brings alumni and friends from all of our six departments and all graduating classes together with current students, faculty and staff. Inviting everyone back to campus the morning of the Homecoming football game, the breakfast promises food and fun with an opportunity to renew old friendships, make new ones, and celebrate the accomplishments of the college.

One of the largest and oldest traditions on campus, the annual Pig Roast is a celebration honoring teams and individuals who have distinguished themselves and the University during the past year. Scholarship donors and recipients, as well as outstanding leaders in the fields of agriculture and natural resources are recognized. The event provides an opportunity to say “Thank You!” to individuals and companies who have assisted in the activities of the College.

The College’s Outstanding Agriculturalist Awards are presented each year in conjunction with the Pig Roast. Established in 1969, the awards were named after Gerald W. Thomas who severed as Dean of Agricultural Sciences from 1958 to 1970. The awards recognize one individual from three categories: Production, Agribusiness and Public Service, for their accomplishments and contributions to the industry. Winners do not have to be alumni of the College or Texas Tech University. These awards give us the opportunity to celebrate the professionals in agriculture and natural resources, and develop relationships across the industry.

The Deep Roots Podcast showcases the incredible work happening in the Davis College, from research to outreach and engagement. Each episode is unique, highlighting research and innovation our faculty have been working on.

“We are setting aspirational goals to be a top 10 college of agricultural sciences and natural resources in the country, and that’s prime,” Dean Clint Krehbiel said. “For me it’s about the journey and not the destination. Having a faculty, staff and student body that are bought into our mission is of the utmost importance to me. At the end of the day, it boils down to our people.”

Deep Roots Podcast

The Agriculturist  is a student publication of the Department of Agricultural Education and Communications at Texas Tech University. Each semester, students enrolled in ACOM 4410: Development of Agricultural Publications produce this magazine from start to finish as part of their degree requirement.
