I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Texas Tech University. I received a Ph.D. from the Department of Political Science at Texas A&M University. Before starting my Ph.D., I completed an M.A. in Public Policy from Universidad de los Andes (Colombia).
My research focuses on comparative political institutions, political representation, voting behavior, environmental politics, and local/urban politics in Latin America and the US. Currently, I study how political decentralization affects the process and quality of democratic representation in large cities. I am particularly interested in how electoral institutions and multilevel governance structures shape political representation and policy responsiveness: who votes, who gets elected, and who benefits. My research takes a mixed-methods approach, using quantitative and qualitative methods. My work has been published in journals including the Journal of Politics, Political Communication, the Journal of Latin American Politics and Society, and Revista de Ciencia Política (Chile).
