Texas Tech University

Bookstore Adoptions

Texas Tech University requires faculty and academic units to submit required and recommended textbooks and other course materials for each course offered. Course materials should be submitted through Follett Discover, including materials students may obtain from sources other than the campus bookstore.

Submitting course materials on time helps students understand expected course costs and allows students who use financial aid for books and supplies to access eligible materials through the official university bookstore.

Some adoptions may not be known until teaching assignments or course schedules are finalized. Academic units should submit materials for regularly recurring courses, particularly lower-level and high-enrollment courses, as early as possible.

RaiderCanvas Access Is Not Required to Begin

Faculty and staff do not need to wait for a RaiderCanvas course shell to submit an adoption. If a course section is active in Banner, its information should already be available through Follett Discover.

Choosing the Correct Material Type

All required course materials should be reported through Follett Discover. Select the option that accurately reflects what students will need for the course.

No Materials Required

Select No Materials Required only when students truly are not required to obtain any course materials.

If students must purchase or obtain materials from another vendor or source, those materials should still be included in the course adoption. This helps Texas Tech meet course-material reporting requirements and ensures students using eligible financial aid for books and supplies receive accurate information.

Open Educational Resources

If a course uses free and openly licensed materials, select the OER Materials option in Follett Discover rather than No Materials Required.

Ebooks & Courseware

If a course requires courseware such as MindTap, MyLab or another digital learning platform, submit the ISBN associated with the required courseware. An ebook ISBN alone may not accurately identify all materials students need.

Adoptions Through RaiderCanvas

Faculty may also access Follett Discover through their RaiderCanvas courses when the Follett course-material adoption tool is available within the course.

Once Follett Discover is opened from the appropriate course, faculty can review the course information and submit required or recommended learning materials for students.

If you do not see Follett Discover in RaiderCanvas or have difficulty accessing the adoption tool, contact the Follett Course Materials Manager for assistance rather than delaying the adoption.

Training & Assistance

Follett and the Teaching, Learning & Professional Development Center provide training resources for faculty and staff who submit course-material adoptions.
