Faculty Wellbeing & Success Mini-Grants
Faculty Wellbeing & Success Mini-Grants provide funding to support professional activities that enhance faculty success in their roles at Texas Tech University. Eligible full-time faculty may request up to $2,000 for approved professional development, conference participation, publication costs and related activities.
Funding is limited and competitive. Awards may be less than the amount requested.

Eligibility & Basic Information
The mini-grant program is open to full-time Texas Tech faculty seeking support for activities that enhance their professional success.
Funding Limits
- Eligible faculty may request up to $2,000.
- Funds awarded may be less than the amount requested.
- Individuals may submit only one proposal.
- Awarded funds cannot be renewed or carried forward into FY 27.
Previous Recipients
Faculty who received Wellbeing & Success funding during the 2024-2025 academic year are not eligible for the 2025-2026 Mini-Grant program.
Faculty who received funding during the 2022-2023 or 2023-2024 academic years may apply. Priority, however, will be given to applicants who have not previously received an award.
Activity Dates
Funded programs and activities should take place between March 1 and Aug. 31, 2026.
Applicants proposing an activity that occurs before March 1 should work with their unit-level business manager before incurring expenses. This can help ensure that eligible costs paid personally or through departmental funds can be reimbursed if the proposal is approved.
Proposal Requirements
Proposals must be submitted through the Faculty Success Mini-Grant Proposal Form.
Applicants will be asked to provide:
- A narrative description of the proposed program or activity.
- An explanation of how the activity will support professional success in the applicant's position at Texas Tech.
- Anticipated objectives or expected deliverables.
- Dates for the proposed activity, including the anticipated completion date.
- A proposed budget.
- Confirmation of support from the applicant's immediate supervisor.
Eligible Expenses
Mini-grant funds may be requested for expenses directly related to approved professional activities.
- Registration fees for domestic or international academic conferences.
- Registration for directed professional development activities related to the applicant's position at Texas Tech.
- Publication fees.
- Fees associated with submitting projects to juried competitions related to the applicant's university role.
- Travel associated with approved activities, including baggage fees and local transportation.
- Meals and incidentals during approved travel, up to the maximum allowable per diem rate.
- Lodging associated with approved activities, up to the maximum allowable per diem rate.
Ineligible Expenses
Mini-grant funds may not be used for:
- Self-directed research, including archival research.
- Self-directed development, creative or other professional activities in which the participant assumes responsibility for their own learning process.
- Licensure, training or certification required for the employee's current Texas Tech position. These expenses should be funded by the employee's home department or unit.
- Alcohol.
- Personal consumables.
- Consulting fees.
- Medical treatment, including mental health treatment.
- Food or beverages other than individual per diem expenses associated with approved travel.
- Activities taking place after Aug. 31, 2026.
Selection & Funding Priorities
Funding is limited and is not guaranteed. Awards will be based on the information provided in the proposal and made in accordance with Texas Tech University System Regulation 07.09.
Priority Consideration
Priority will be given to proposals supporting:
- Invited keynote presentations or other significant addresses at academic conferences, juried competitions or similar events.
- Peer-reviewed presentations at academic conferences, juried competitions or similar events.
- Professional development activities that clearly strengthen the applicant's ability to advance in their position.
Awarded funds must be used within the applicable fiscal year and cannot be renewed.
Faculty and Staff Applications
The Wellbeing & Success Mini-Grant program previously accepted applications from both full-time faculty and full-time staff. Beginning with the 2025-2026 award cycle, faculty and staff proposals are managed separately. This page applies to faculty applications.
Program Background
The President's Mental Wellness Committee was established in October 2021 to identify areas of need and resources supporting the wellbeing of Texas Tech faculty and staff. With continued support from the Offices of the President and Provost, the committee became the Council for Staff & Faculty Wellbeing in September 2024.
The Council for Staff & Faculty Wellbeing works with the Office of Faculty Success to support programs and opportunities that strengthen faculty professional wellbeing and success.
